The event “When War Becomes Personal” was so much more than a gathering. It was a powerful reminder that solidarity is lived through people, presence, and action — and that when war becomes personal, friendship and responsibility do too.

On February 22, on Parliament Hill in the very heart of Canada, we came together to demonstrate our solidarity with Ukraine.

On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ottawa Branch, we sincerely thank everyone who joined us that day: the Ukrainian community, friends of Ukraine, members of the diplomatic corps, and all those who stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine at this crucial time.

On January 21, 2026, Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ottawa Branch, The Mark Kopinec Fund, and Canada Ukraine Foundation, were pleased to invite all to a special event titled “Russian Disinformation in Canada: Impact and Struggle or Counteraction.” This timely discussion was focus on the impact of Russian disinformation on Canadian society, democratic institutions, and public discourse.

Thanks to the collaboration of Senator Stan Kutcher, Senator Donna Dasko, and Senator Rebecca Patterson, together with the UCC National - Ukrainian Canadian Congress and our generous partner and sponsor MEEST Canada, Ukrainian culture shone at the heart of Ottawa.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who joined UCC – Ottawa Branch in celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day. This year, once again, we proved that when a community unites around a shared purpose, a celebration is born that offers not only joy, but also faith in victory.

In the very heart of Canada’s capital, at Ottawa City Hall, the Ukrainian blue-and-yellow flag was solemnly raised today. On these days, as we honour the National Flag and celebrate the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, this moment carries special meaning.

Today on Parliament Hill, we came together for a solemn memorial, “Remember Ukraine’s Children,” held in observance of the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The gathering honored the memory of 631 Ukrainian children whose lives were taken as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

We are truly humbled by the unwavering support and participation from our Ukrainian community in Ottawa. This event not only celebrated our rich Ukrainian culture but also highlighted the strength and unity we share as a community, working together towards a noble cause.

Hundreds of participants dressed in traditional Ukrainian embroidered shirts – vyshyvankas – joined together to celebrate our rich culture, unity, and identity. 💙💛
