“When War Becomes Personal’’ with Juris Ulmanis
The event “When War Becomes Personal” was so much more than a gathering. It was a powerful reminder that solidarity is lived through people, presence, and action — and that when war becomes personal, friendship and responsibility do too.
Our deepest and most heartfelt thanks go to Juris Ulmanis — for true friendship, for being a living example for all of us, and for his unwavering dedication to Ukraine. Juris, your support is not symbolic; it is real, consistent, and deeply human. You show us what it means to stand with Ukraine not only in words, but in deeds. Thank you for your courage, your integrity, and your solidarity.
We sincerely thank the diplomats who honoured us with their presence and support:
representatives of Latvia, Lithuania, and Ukraine — for your clear stance, solidarity, and for standing with Ukraine during the most difficult times.
We are grateful to our sponsors:
Embassy of Latvia in Canada / Latvijas vēstniecība Kanādā
Latvian National Federation in Canada/Latviešu Nacionālā Apvienība Kanadā
@Latvian Relief Society Daugavas Vanagi in Canada for making this event possible, and
@Canada Ukrainian Youth Association – Ottawa Branch — for your hospitality and commitment to community and to Ukraine.
A special thank-you to Marina Shum for the beautiful photographs that captured not only the moments, but also the emotions, strength, and sincerity of the evening and Master of the Ceremony - @Yaroslav Baran
We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ukrainian, Latvian, Canadian, Russian Embassy Protesters - Canada Stands with Ukraine and all other communities who joined us — for your unity, your open hearts, and for building a shared space where support for Ukraine is genuine and alive.
Evenings like this remind us:
when war becomes personal, solidarity becomes personal too.
And together, we are stronger.
Thank you to everyone who stood with us
With gratitude and full hearts!
