International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression
Thank you for standing with us.
Today on Parliament Hill, we came together for a solemn memorial, “Remember Ukraine’s Children,” held in observance of the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. The gathering honored the memory of 631 Ukrainian children whose lives were taken as a result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Their names were read aloud.
Their lives were remembered.
Their futures were mourned.
This was not only an act of remembrance, but also a moment of collective reflection and responsibility — a reminder that behind every statistic stands a child, a family, and a future that should have been protected.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in solidarity, including Members of Parliament and the Senate, representatives of the diplomatic corps, community leaders, volunteers, and members of the Ukrainian and Canadian communities. We are especially thankful to Father Taras Kinash for his spiritual presence and to Anna Boyko, whose moving performance of Ave Maria touched every heart and gave voice to grief beyond words.
This memorial was organized in partnership with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC National), the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada, and the dedicated group Russian Embassy Protesters – Canada Stands with Ukraine, whose members stand with Ukraine every single day through their unwavering commitment and advocacy.
We are sincerely grateful to our distinguished guests for their presence and support, including Senator Stan Kutcher (with special thanks for the flowers laid in memory of the children), James Bezan, Heather McPherson, Yvan Baker, and Dona Dasko.
Today, we stood together not only to remember, but to affirm our shared values.
We stand for justice.
We stand with Ukraine.
We remember Ukraine’s children.
Their memory calls us to continue speaking the truth, defending the innocent, and standing firm against aggression — until justice prevails and peace is restored.
