Ceremony to Honour Resilience of Ukrainian People - Feb 24, 2025 - Senate of Canada

Senator Stan Kutcher had the honour of co-hosting a powerful and deeply moving ceremony alongside Senator Dona Dasko, held in partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Ottawa Branch.

The event marked three years since Russia’s brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine and brought together elected officials, diplomats, community leaders, and members of the public to honour the resilience, strength, and courage of the Ukrainian people.

Throughout the ceremony, remarkable Ukrainian artistic talent was highlighted — a testament to the richness of Ukraine’s culture and the enduring spirit of its people. These expressions of art and heritage served as a powerful reminder that no invasion, no matter how violent, can erase a nation’s identity or silence its voice.

A central focus of the gathering was the devastating impact of war on children and the urgent need to do more to protect and support them. As Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty, countless children bear the invisible and lasting scars of conflict. The ceremony underscored a shared responsibility to advocate for their safety, dignity, and future.

Canada’s unwavering support for Ukraine was reaffirmed through words and presence — a clear message that solidarity is not symbolic, but sustained and active.

Canada stands with Ukraine.
