Join us for a solemn evening of prayer and remembrance marking the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Together, we will stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, honor the victims, and pray for peace, resilience, and victory.

As we, unfortunately, approach the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it is especially important on this day to come together as a community—to express our solidarity with Ukraine and our gratitude to all friends who have stood by us.

About our guest, Juris Ulmanis:

Juris is a recognized academic, writer, entrepreneur, mountaineer, and polar explorer. He serves as an Officer in the Latvian National Guard and is an active volunteer supporting Ukraine.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Juris comes from a family of Latvian immigrants who escaped Russian occupation in the 1950s. He spent 18 years in leadership roles at Motorola, Inc., and earned a PhD in Management, teaching entrepreneurship, marketing, and international business across the Baltic region.

Since Russia’s invasions of Ukraine in 2014 and 2022, Juris has been actively supporting Ukraine—delivering humanitarian aid, fundraising, and providing critical equipment to soldiers on the front lines.

Juris is also an accomplished mountaineer and polar explorer, having completed the “Seven Summits” challenge by climbing the highest peak on each continent, crossed Greenland on skis, and in 2025 skied to the South Pole to plant both the Latvian and Ukrainian flags.

Special attention will be given to political activism — engagement with elected officials at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels, participation in advocacy processes, and representation of community interests. He will also highlight the importance of working with sponsors and partners, which ensures resource support for projects, expands their scale, and contributes to achieving sustainable results.

The event will bring together members of the Ukrainian community to explore the challenges posed by Russian disinformation and to discuss ways in which the community could effectively respond.

About the Speaker – Hon. Senator Stanley Kutcher

Hon. Senator Stanley Kutcher serves on the Senate Committee on National Security and Defence and has spoken extensively in the Senate on issues related to Russian disinformation and threats to democratic institutions. He is the founder of Science Up First, a Canadian NGO created to combat health disinformation, and has consistently advocated for a coordinated, comprehensive, and effective approach to countering Russian disinformation across government and civil society.

Senator Kutcher is a strong advocate for Ukraine. He is currently working to advance a special pathway to permanent residence for recently displaced Ukrainians in Canada, to encourage universities to apply domestic tuition rates for Ukrainian students, and to support Ukrainian communities across Canada in preserving cultural and historical memory. He has also been actively pushing for Canada to do more to help return Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia.

He is a recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia and the Order of Merit of Ukraine, and is the author of Bill S-210, which established Ukrainian Heritage Month in Canada.

Internationally, Senator Kutcher is recognized as a leading adolescent mental health expert, known for his major contributions to youth mental health research and for leading the development of Canada’s first national child and youth mental health framework.
